New Haven cooking legend Stephen Fry hosts bimonthly walking tours of New Haven, but once a year he ups the excitement and festivities for a specially themed holiday tour.
In 2013, the Holiday Downtown Culinary Walking Tour will be on Saturday, December 7th. To get your taste buds ready for the holidays, this tour through New Haven’s best cuisine includes nine stops at some of the top food and drink providers in the area.
Where Does the Holiday Tour Start and Finish?
The holiday culinary tour starts at the Omni New Haven Hotel, a luxury accommodation nestled between some of the biggest attractions in downtown New Haven. The foodie experience begins on the 19th floor at the upscale restaurant run by Chef John Davenport. Roughly three and a half hours later, the tour concludes at the nearby Union League Cafe.
As a walking tour, participants should expect to spend roughly half of the event’s duration on their feet, but there will be plenty of rest stops where you can drink, dine and refuel in a warm, comfortable chair. In total, expect to walk around two miles during the tour, which will take place rain or shine. Bring along appropriate clothing to ensure you enjoy the experience fully.
With nine stops included on the holiday culinary tour of New Haven, you will have some fabulous opportunities to dig into the best winter dishes, desserts and drinks made in the city.
At Bar 19, sip a handcrafted cocktail with a view, and then see where the very first hamburgers were invented at Louis’ Lunch.
Warm up at Willoughby’s, which offers locally roasted coffee, and then indulge in something sweet and delicious from The Cupcake Truck.
Additional stops, each of which will offer festive cuisine for the holidays, include Caseus, Atticus, the Union League Cafe and the York Noodle House.
