Toad’s Place, A Well known Legendary Landmark
New Haven, Ct. is the second largest city in Ct. and home of the famous entertainment spot Toad’s Place. It is located at 300 York Street surrounded by many famous eateries. The old world charm of New Haven will be well worth the trip from anywhere. 300 York Street was originally the home of Yale Co Op. During the 1960’s it was converted to a few restaurants until 1975 Michael Spoerndle, a former culinary student who named the spot “Toad’s Place” took over.
He used the name Toad after reminiscing a childhood joke. At that time people who stayed at home and didn’t indulge in night life were considered Toads. The name stuck and in 1976 Toad’s place was the place to go for the best live music from some of the most prominent musicians as it stands today. Toad’s sets the ambiance with music, spirits and memorable fun times.
Famous Performing Artists
Some of the very first musicians to perform were locals such as Peter Menta, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and KoKo Taylor , legends to Toad’s Place. In 1975 Brian Phelps joined in as manager and co owner. After the death of Spoerndle in May of 2011 Phelps continues to make Toad’s Place a Legendary piece of New Haven. Toad’s Place takes into consideration that not everyone listens to the same jams so they spread out the music performances to Rock N’ Roll, Blues, Reggae and Techno.
New attractions At Toad’s
Lilly’s Pad, a dance innovation that sets the stage for the perfect dance party. Saturday nights come alive with weekly dance parties starting a 9:30 pm. 21 and up to party, Toad’s place strictly enforces the state legal drinking age. DJ Marc and DJ Action bring the dance to the party with Hip Hop, Electro and Pop. The laser light show sets the stage for grooving.
The All New Rain Forest Room with lush rain forest tropical greenery sets the stage For an exotic night of party. Lilly’s Pad and The Rain Forest Room are available for rental for private parties.
