Cromwell is a small town that comprises 13.5 square miles and has approximately 13,600 people (as of July 2008). Cromwell is situated geographically in the center of the State and is part of Middlesex County. It is 14 miles south of Hartford and 28 miles northeast of New Haven. Bradley International Airport is 28 miles north of Cromwell, just outside of Hartford. The Connecticut River, which runs thru many CT areas, forms the eastern boundary of the Town.
Cromwell is easily accessible to many highway areas in Northern CT. A major north/south highway, Interstate 91 (I-91), which has two Cromwell exits, runs through the Town. Route 9, a central Connecticut Expressway enhances the Town’s location as it connects I-95 in Old Saybrook (a town located along the shoreline in Eastern CT) to I-91 in Cromwell and I-84 in the Greater Hartford area which is the State’s major east/west highway.
Cromwell currently has 1 Elementary School, 1 Middle School, 1 High School and a Intermediate school which is designated as a Professional Development School with Central CT State University. Cromwell is conveniently located close to some key CT Colleges such as Wesleyan University, Central CT State University, Trinity College, Quinnipiac University, Yale University and many others. The Town provides a full range of municipal departments including police, public works, health, sanitation, wetlands protection and zoning compliance, senior citizens, youth services, social services, recreation, library, and general government administrative services.
