Orange is an attractive town in which to live, as evidenced by the above-average school system, a wide range of community services and its easy access to urban areas using Routes 1 (Boston Post Rd), Route 15 (Merritt/Wilbur Cross Parkway), Route 34 and I-95, all of which travel through New Haven County and Orange, you will find Orange is a great place to live.

Orange is located just west of New Haven and about 1 hour east of New York City.  Orange features a traditional town green and a historic district.  This close-knit community retains its New England simplicity with its careful zoning practices.  Do not mistake Orange for a sleepy small town. With a blend of rural and suburban, Orange is home to about 14,000  residents and is the perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet of the New England countryside.

When speaking of the above-average school system, Orange is home to 3 Elementary Schools, a Regional Junior High and a Regional High School.  Orange shares their Junior and High Schools with neighboring towns Woodbridge and Bethany.

The Orange Parks and Recreation Department maintains excellent parks and recreational facilities to enhance the quality of life to its residents.  The High Plains Community Center is home to many functions thru-out the year including the well-anticipated Orange Fireman’s Carnival as well as use of the indoor town pool and Toddler Playroom for youngsters ages 6 months to 4 years old.  Orange has 4 Soccer fields available, a 9-hole disc-golf course set up in the fields surrounding the High Plains Community Center, and when it’s not too cold outside, children can enjoy the Mary L. Tracy Playground which is open daily with various hours. Enjoy simply skating on Orange’s “Nice Rink” at the High Plains Community Center. With hockey not permitted, this rink is great for people of all ages. Those seeking outdoor ice skating during winter months can find it at Wrights Pond, maintained daily by the Parks and Recreation Department.

Each year visitors from all over the state join Orange residents as they honor their agrarian roots at the Orange Country Fair. With agriculture and livestock exhibitions, food, crafts and events like the Women’s Skillet Toss and the Men’s Hay Bale Toss, this fair has something for everyone!
